With the Christmas and New Year holidays,Destiny 2slowed down a bit. Although the Dawning event andIron Bannerhave been active in the past few weeks, the game has hit the pause button when it comes to new content that is specific to the Season of Dawn like the Sundial activity and continuing the Saint-14 storyline. But as the game enters 2020, there is still a good amount coming in the coming months for the remainder of the Season of Dawn.

The beginning of Season of Dawn, which began December 10, introduced the Sundial activity toDestiny 2, two of its associated obelisks, solar subclass changes, the Elimination PvP playlist, and returning PvP map Rusted Lands. The next week opened up the story mission for the season featuring Saint-14, a new Sundial boss, and the unlocking of the other two obelisks. Another Sundial boss showed up later in December along with the Dawning and Iron Banner.

The game is set to ramp up this week with additional events throughout the season, adding exotics, a mysterious event, and possibly some other surprises along the way.

New Exotics

The January 7th reset will introduce an exotic quest for the sidearm Devil’s Ruin. Devil’s Ruin is part sidearm, part pocket laser. According to the game’s database, pressing the trigger of Devil’s Ruin will see it act like a normal sidearm, but holding down the fire button will charge a laser that will stagger enemies and fully charging the laser refills the magazine from reserves. If the database is accurate, its quest will involve getting a drop from the Sundial, taking it to Saint-14, and then gathering lost weapon fragments in a special mission on the Twilight Gap map.

On January 28th, the game will release the first kinetic fusion rifle, an exotic called Bastion. It charges to fire three spreads of kinetic slugs with a portion of the damage penetrating enemy shields. Currently, in the database, there is no quest associated with Bastion but it is connected directly with Saint-14. But that could change as its release date comes closer.

Sundial Additions

Along with the Devil’s Ruin quest, this coming January 7th reset will also add a Legend difficulty of the Sundial. It is unknown if that will be a straight power level difficulty increase, additional difficulty mods, or some other way to ramp up the damage, although both of those are likely based on how the game has treated increased difficulty modes of Nightfalls andNightmare Hunts.

Then, on February 4th, a new Psion boss, called Inotam, Oblivion’s Triune, will appear as the boss in the Sundial. This will occur about a month out from the end of the season so it could serve as the same seasonal and narrative pivot similar tolast season’s appearance of the Undying Mindin the Vex Offensive. Although different from the Undying Mind, this boss will likely be added to the boss rotation of the Sundial, not replace the other bosses.

Empyrean Foundation Event

One of the mysteries of the season is an event of some sort called Empyrean Foundation, which developer Bungie has yet to detail. Fans have founda hidden Triumph in the databasethat will require players to donate 5,000 Polarized Fractaline to the Empyrean Foundation, and there are a few items in the database associated with the event that increases progress on Timelost bounties, gain faster upgrades to obelisks, and purchase buffs and consumables.

Fans are theorizing that this event could act as a bit of a catch-up mechanic for the season allowing players to upgrade any remaining obelisks and further progress their seasonal pursuits, or that it could be a bit of a resource sink for some unknown reward similar tothe Tribute Halland the Bad Juju in Season of Opulence.

Crimson Days

The Valentine’s Day-themed event, Crimson Days will arrive inDestiny 2on February 11th and will run one week until the following February 18th reset.Last year’s eventfeatured a special Doubles playlist, added Eververse event items, and a quest for a new bow. Bungie has yet to detail this year’s event, but based on how the Dawning was handled this year, Crimson Days will likely be similar to last year.

Surprises

There looks like there could also be a few surprises that have not been communicated or put on the Season of Dawn roadmap. There isa hidden exotic currently in the database, which could show up during the course of this season in a hidden mission or as part of one of the events listed above. Bungie creative lead Robbie Stevens also tweeted this teasing these surprises:

So players will need to keep an eye out for anything additional that could be coming in Season of Dawn, but for now, that is everything known to be coming for the rest of season 9.
