Since releasing back in 2017,Destiny 2is now a much different game than it was at launch. Thanks in large part toexpansions likeDestiny 2’sForsaken, bug fixes, updates, and other content launches, the game is now a much more polished and robust experience for all player types. However, for all of the improvements Bungie has made toDestiny 2over the months and years, many fans would argue that the PvP Crucible is now the weakest part of this package and is in need of some rebalancing.
In a move likely to push back against the belief thatthe studio is moving away from PvP, Bungie has hired theDestiny 2player known as Change from the BombSquadKittens clan. According to a post in the Discord channel, the position is a minimum 6-month consulting role to help the team on the Crucible side of development. As such, Change won’t be on Twitch or other community endeavors due to NDA and contractual obligations.
While recent updates have largely focused on bug fixes, Gambit updates, and new PvE style content, the Crucible has seen an uptick in activity thanks to rumors surrounding the future of the franchise. WithDestiny 3expected to be well into developmentat this point, rumors and fan speculation have theorized that the Crucible won’t be apart of the franchise going forward. Bungie heard the rumors and essentially broke normal protocol to confirm that the Crucible remains a key element forDestinyand developers continue to work on it for current and future games.
Surprisingly, new maps have not come to the Crucible in months, leaving fans to look forward to balancing updates with super abilities and a revolving playlist each week. In the meantime, The Revelry spring event has also caused a bit of controversy withDestiny 2PvP players.
A temporary item called Reveler’s Tonic gives players reduced cooldowns for an hour on grenade, melee, and class abilities which have caused all sorts of chaos in the competitive playlist. Due to the endless grenade and class ability spamming, countering the tactic makes the mode much tougher and adds another layer of frustration considering that players can lose rank in this mode.
Destiny 2is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
