Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuXis, by far, one of the biggest anime of 2025. The series immediately attracted plenty of attention by being a collaboration with Studio Khara ofNeon Genesis Evangelionfame, and despite some notable pacing issues, it was nothing but a great watch from start to finish.
Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuXwas a great experiencefor old and newGundamfans alike, and that begs the question of whether people can expect a sequel. It isn’t unheard of forGundamanime to get sequels, and there were plenty of loose ends in the finale, so some sort of follow-up would make sense. Unfortunately,the chances of a second season forMobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuXaren’t looking too good, and that’s probably not going to change anytime soon.

Following theGQuuuuuuXfinale, the officialGQuuuuuuX Xaccount posted a message from series director Kazuya Tsurumaki thanking fans for their support, with him saying that it allowed them to “somehow make it to the final episode”. That, of course, is hardly the first time episode #12 was referred to as the final episode, and with the staff now saying it as well,there’s little reason to viewMobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuXepisode #12 as anything other than the series finale.

Granted, just because it’s currently labeled as the finale doesn’t mean that couldn’t change, and sinceGQuuuuuuXwill have a panel at Anime Expo 2025, that would be a perfect chance to announce a sequel. All of that is hypothetical, of course, and considering everything that’s already been stated about the show’s longevity,people shouldn’t expect aMobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuXsequel to be announced anytime soon, if at all.

TheMobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuXanimeisn’t getting a sequel anytime soon, and it’s easy to see why that’s disappointing. For starters, between the gorgeous 2D and 3D visuals and how the stellar direction complements it all,Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuXis one of the best-looking anime in modern times, and if it were to receive more content, it would only look better with each new installment.
More importantly, thanks to the short runtime, many plot points like Machu, Nyaan, and Shuji’s relationship and the general state of things in the new timeline got nowhere near the development they needed to be satisfying, and it was to the point that the finale kept throwing in twist after twist with little to no explanation.Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuXneeded more episodes to make its story work better, but unfortunately, that’s probably not going to happen.

Why Original Anime Don’t Work In Modern Anime
If nothing else,GQuuuuuuX’s situation works to highlight a major problem with original anime: their increasingly short lengths. Nowadays, it’s rare for an original anime to even get 24-26 episodes, and while some shows make it work,most modern original anime ultimately fail because they aren’t given enough time to properly tell their stories, andGQuuuuuuXis another example of the pacing issues that go hand-in-hand with that.
GQuuuuuuXisn’t even the only recent example of this, as whilethe previousGundamanime,The Witch from Mercury, was twice as long asGQuuuuuuX, it also suffered from poor pacing due to not being 50 episodes like mostGundamanime are.Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuXis the latest example of an original anime being far too short, and unfortunately, that’s not going to change anytime soon.
As fun asGQuuuuuuXwas to watch, it was held back from being perfect by how much the poor pacing held back its writing, so if it really won’t get a sequel, thenMobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX’s short length will forever keep it from meeting its full potential as aGundamanime. Someone can still have a great time watchingMobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX, but unfortunately, that can only go so far with how short it is.
