There are certainly a great many mysteries still surroundingDeath Stranding, the latest creation from the mind of Hideo Kojima, but the game’s box art is no longer among them. During a special panel at San Diego Comic-Con this week, Kojima provided audiences with their first look at theDeath StrandingPlayStation 4 box art.

What’s more, he not only showed off the box art for the standard version, but also the SteelBook version, which is typically packaged with slightly more pricey editions. The standard version pictures protagonist Sam Bridges, played by Norman Reedus, as many have seen him through various promotional material and trailers released so far. The SteelBook version, however, shows a grittier version of Sam that looks like he’s been through some rough stuff.

From what we have seen, Sam certainly does have to deal with all manner of deadly situations, paranormal and otherwise. This is in addition to traversing great distances through dangerous terrain on foot, all while hauling cargo as a deliveryman. The muddy, scuffed-up version of Sam we see in the second cover is possibly what he will look like much later in the game, worn down from his intense journey. The SteelBook cover was also confirmed to have been designed by Kojima himself.

One of the paranormal threats Sam will be dealing with was the subject of a recentDeath Strandingtrailer from Japan, whichfeatures a boss battlewith a gruesome black tentacle monster. The video does not show a whole lot of this fight, but it is enough to get a feel for some of the terrifying enemies Sam will have to face throughout the game and how he will go about it; a lot of shooting and running, it seems like.

Kojima revealed much more than the game’s box art at Comic-Con. During his panel, he also showed off some new clips and went into more depth about the story and characters. One of the characters he expanded on was Heartman, whose likeness is that of film director Nicolas Winding Refn. The attendees were also treated to acutscene featuring Heartman with Sam. Kojima did not reveal too much about the character outside of bits of his past and how long he will be alive in the game.
