The DCU’s Next Gen of Heroes is Here with Legendary Weapons at Their Disposal
Writer Tom Taylor is, of course, no stranger to sword and sorcery-style tales. He was, after all, the writer behindDark Knights of Steel, the Elseworlds tale that reinvented the DCU as one full of knights and other Arthurian archetypes. Beyond Taylor’s work, DC Comics has had plenty of ongoing series and miniseries influenced by heroic fantasies. Series likeWarlord,Camelot 3000,Amethyst: Princess of Gemworld, andDemon Knightshave all showcased more epic sides to the DC Universe. Though the world is known more for superhero fare, there’s plenty of sword and sorcery action to be found as well.
It’s always cool to see new DC heroes, especially ones with diverse power sets. After all, the DCU has plenty of sidekicks modeled after well-known heroes, but it’s sorely lacking in next-gen heroes with their own identities. Giving a bunch of kids weapons that are bound to the spirits of the knights that fought alongside King Arthur is such an incredibly fun idea. It’s like the Children of the Round Table were created in the vein of teams like the Newsboy Legion or the Green Team. It’ll beinteresting to see whatC.O.R.T.’sdebut will mean for the larger DCU.
The Children of the Round Table Will Forge a New Era for DC’s Younger Generation
C.O.R.T.is the Shot in the Arm the Next Wave of Heroes Needs
Given this book is firmly set in the DCU, it’s bound to have some effect on the greater world (let’s be real, the expanded Justice League Unlimited has to have something like that on their radar). But it’d be fascinating to see the Children of the Round Table meet up, and eventually partner up, with other young heroes. Just imagine Damian Wayne or Flash’s kids meeting and fighting alongside Fel and her friends. There’s no telling where things could go with the Children of the Round Table, but they’re sure to takeDC Comics’fans on a wild ride.
C.O.R.T.: Children of the Round Table #1is available from DC Comics on September 10th, 2025.
