WithFIFA 21still to release on the new PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles, EA has confirmed that not only willfootball legend David Beckhambe the cover star of the new releases, players will be able to add him to their squads for free once he releases for the game.
However, according to the small print in the announcement trailer, Beckham will be available for every version ofFIFA 21except for the Nintendo Switch version, which has unsurprisingly not gone down well with players who own that one.

Though the game received otherwise solid reviews from critics, the Switch version was blasted for being what has been described as the exact same game asFIFA 20, which in turn was exactly the same asFIFA 19, which was also exactly the same asFIFA 18, which was the same asFIFA 17. Essentially,FIFAfans on Switch have been forced to play the same game for the last four years.
Not only does it have an abysmally low user score on Metacritic (only 0.2), professional outlets weren’t any kinder. Nintendo Life gave it a 2/10, with the only positive quality being thatFIFA 17was a solid game anyway, and IGN just copied and pasted its review ofFIFA 20.
At the time of writing, no reason has been given as to why the Switch version is missing out on Beckham, but even if a reason is provided, it likely won’t placate fans who are tired of always having to play an inferior product compared to its contemporaries.
The game’s microtransactions have also been met with criticism. In fact, a Netherlands court has ruled that EAmust remove loot boxes fromFIFA 21or face massive fines; a ruling that EA has elected to appeal.
FIFA 21is available for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. It will release for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on December 4th.
