Pesci is obvious, but DeVito? Not seeing it
If you play the originalBayonettaand don’t immediately think of Joe Pesci themomentEnzo opens his mouth, you haven’t been getting enough Vinny in your life. Some people find his manner of speech annoying, but like former Destructoid joy-bringerChad Concelmo, I like the fat man.
As obvious as the celebrity homage is, it’s cool thatBayonettadirector Hideki Kamiyaacknowledgedthe fact on Twitter. But Pesci isn’t the only angry little Italian to lend his likeness to Enzo. Kamiya alsostatedthat Danny DeVito was another inspiration. It’s not as immediately noticeable, but who am I to tell him he’s mistaken?
If Enzo returns for the sequel, I hope they really play up the DeVito angle. Maybe dress him up as a troll and make him the guardian of “boys’ souls.” Or he could go full-on Oswald Cobblepot and ride around in a giant rubber ducky.
