CD Projekt Red’s next big role-playing adventure game,Cyberpunk 2077, is already making waves at Gamescom this week, withnew screenshots releasedto further show off their fancy futuristic setting. However, the title has also recently generated some negative press following a controversial Tweet from the official Twitter account.

Yesterday, in response to one of the account’s Tweets teasing then-upcoming Gamescom info, a user stated “I WANT MORE GUYS.” This, in turn, received the response “Did you just assume their gender?” The Tweet, and all replies to it, have since been deleted but it quickly made its way around the Internet and received a very mixed response.

While several found it to be nothing more than a harmless joke, stating that they’re “happy to see that the team has a sense of humor”, others found it to be tasteless and offensive, even accusing CD Projekt Red of transphobia and stating that they will no longer be purchasing the game when it comes out. Considering how much positive buzz has surrounded the title since its announcement at E3 this year (we even listed it asone of the best gamesof the event), this is a shocking swerve in the other direction, though it’s currently unknown whether this will have a drastic effect on sales.

CD Projekt Red has since issued an apology on theCyberpunk 2077account. It states “Sorry to all those offended by one of the responses sent out from our account earlier. Harming anyone was never our intention.” Though the apology hasn’t won everyone back over, with some deeming it a “fake apology,” there are still those that, while still taking umbrage with the joke, are excited for the game regardless.

In related news, developer Patrick Mills was interviewed about the title at Gamescom andwent into detail about the side-questsand how similar they are to CD Projekt Red’s previous titleThe Witcher 3.

Cyberpunk 2077will release on Xbox One, PS4, and PC though there is currently no release date.
