Castlevaniais getting a brand new game in the series for the first time in a long time, but not quite in the traditional sense. A newCastlevaniagame is headed to mobile, and it looks and sounds pretty darn cool.
As far as coreCastlevaniaexperiences go, the games have been few and far between lately. Theheyday ofCastlevaniawas probably during the handheld era with the Gameboy Advance and Nintendo DS, along with the NES and Super Nintendo era. Other than mobile titles,Castlevania: Lords of Shadowwas the most recent game to launch, and it did so in 2014. So fans are eager to get another bloody taste of the series, and that may finally be the case.

Twitter user Daniel Amhad was one of the first to break the story, and the video that comes with his tweet is intriguing. It seems that Chinese games company Shengqu Games will work with Konami to createMoonlight Rhapsody, theCastlevaniamobile title. Not to be confused withCastlevania: Grimoire of Souls,a co-op mobile game,Moonlight Rhapsodyis an action game that looks similar to the original console games.
The trailer shows thatMoonlight Rhapsodymay have deeper and more complex gameplay than some mobile titles, and the music is beautiful. TheCastlevaniaseries has always had some of the best soundtracks in gaming, so it’s great to seeMoonlight Rhapsodycontinue with that.
Even if it’s just a mobile game, it’s encouraging to see Konami continue to work on new titles. Konami needs some good press, as fans continue to lose hope in the once-powerful publisher. RecentlyKonami dropped the promising Fox Engine, and continues to only work on casino games and mobile titles. But whileMoonlight Rhapsodyfalls in line with what Konami has done for a while now, it looks like it could be fun.
Shengqu Games, the team working with Konami, is a well-knownChinese developer, as it has worked onFallout Shelter Onlineand other well-received titles. The final result that isMoonlight Rhapsodyhas the potential to be fun, and perhaps it could lead toCastlevaniamaking a return to home consoles.
