It has been a rough launch night forCall of Duty: WW2with players reporting server connection issues across the board. Just recently, players were unable to connect to the multiplayer servers for several hours, but things seem to be stabilizing for the moment.

Late Thursday night/early Friday morning, Activision Support sent out a tweet to confirm it was aware that players were experiencing problems connecting to theCall of Duty: WW2multiplayer servers. For most players, especially on console, the menu would hang on the ‘Connecting to Online Services’ portion before an error timed them out. This went on for a couple of hours before a server-side update went live and ironed out some of those problems. That being said, players are still reporting issues getting consistent games and finding new matches after leaving a game.

It’s also worth mentioning that the PS4 and Xbox One seemed to be getting the brunt of the problems, while PC players are not having as much trouble. And this is only focused on the multiplayer, so those gamers that like to jump into thesingle-player campaignfirst are free to do so at their leisure.

While many gamers like to malignCall of Dutyfor its lack of innovation andapproach to multiplayer gameplay, this is the first time in a long time that the series has had an issue with multiplayer servers at launch. There are usually some problems, but they are typically not as widespread as this.

Needless to say, theCall of Dutycommunity was not pleased, especially those that were excited to jump back into the franchise with WW2. Areturn to boots on the groundand a historical setting gave the series a much-needed boost, but now these launch problems could be deflating that enthusiasm somewhat.

In a weeks time, this may be a non-issue or these early hour hiccups could be symptomatic of a larger problem with theCall of Duty: WW2servers. Only time will tell. All we can say for certain is that many multiplayer games live and die by their multiplayer launch, andCall of Duty: WW2has so far stumbled out of the gate.

Call of Duty: WW2is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
