Call of Duty: Modern Warfarehas been a massive success for Activision and Infinity Ward so far, and so it’s quite likely that the game will receive significant support for quite some time (or at least until next year’sCall of Duty).All of theModern WarfareDLC maps and modes will be free, and it looks like this may eventually include the addition of the fan favorite Zombies mode to the game.

Dataminer That1MiningGuy has been digging through theCall of Duty: Modern WarfarePC files in search of what’s to come for the popular first-person shooter. They discovered a file named PRESENCE/MP_ZOMBIES, indicating that Zombies of some kind could very well be coming toModern Warfare. However, based on the file name and the fact that it appeared in a list of maps, it seems as though it may not be traditional Zombies.

It’s possible that Zombies will be integrated intoCall of Duty: Modern Warfareas a special multiplayer mode. Alternatively, zombies themselves could be added to the rumored battle royale mode, asBlack Ops 4had zombiesin its BR as well. Of course, it’s still possible that this file is referencing a traditional Zombies mode, or maybe a Spec Ops variant, but until Infinity Ward itself offers more information, we won’t know for sure.

Prior toCall of Duty: Modern Warfare’s launch, Infinity Ward denied that it would have a Zombies mode. Infinity Ward said thatModern Warfarewouldn’t have a Zombies mode because it would clash with the game’s attempt to be realistic. However, the studio has since pushed back against the idea that multiplayer inModern Warfareis supposed to be realistic, referring to it as a “playground” as a way to justify its inclusion of thecontroversial White Phosphorus killstreak.

Whether Zombies comes toCall of Duty: Modern Warfareas a proper game mode or as a special multiplayer match type remains to be seen. There’s a good chance the undead will never be added to the game at all, though, so fans should keep that in mind before they get too excited about the idea ofCall of Duty: Modern WarfareZombies.
