NobodyandBetter Call Saulstar Bob Odenkirk recently gave a glowing endorsement of an Apple TV+ science fiction series, and it sounds perfect for fans ofSeverance. While there are some greatshows likeSeveranceyou can watch right now, nothing can fully replace Apple TV+’s cultural phenomenon. After theending ofSeveranceseason 2, and no news about season 3, however, fans may be looking for what’s next.
Luckily, Apple TV+ already has an assortment of shows ready to fill in the gap left bySeverance’s absence. FromMurderbotseason 2to the rapidly approaching release of theNeuromancerTV adaptation, Apple TV+ has a lot of options for sci-fi fans. Only one of the streamer’s upcoming projects, however, has been endorsed by Bob Odenkirk.
Bob Odenkirk’s Praise For Pluribus Gives Apple TV+ Another Severance
Bob Odenkirk recently praisedPluribus, the upcoming science fiction show fromBreaking Badcreator Vince Gilligan andBetter Call Saulstar Rhea Seehorn.Pluribusis a mystery so far; its description indicates that Seehorn’s character will “save the world from happiness,” and its trailers are cryptic, sinister clips. What isn’t a mystery, however, is Odenkirk’s opinion ofPluribus.
“I don’t know a damn thing. But I know it’s going to be massive. Massive! It’s going to be the biggest thing, well, since sliced bread, but really since Game of Thrones. You probably know what’s biggest [lately], but probably since Severance. I know Severance, in its way, is a big, big effort. So I think that [Pluribus] is going to be the next big show, and I can’t wait.”
Based on Odenkirk’s comments and what little information we have about the show,Pluribusis already shaping up to be just likeSeverance. LikeSeverance,Pluribusfeatures a confusing and likely sinister mystery at its core, one that has been sold as a solution to some form of unhappiness. That central mystery may even be enough forPluribusto capture a huge audience likeSeverancedid.
Pluribusis set to premiere on Apple TV+ on June 18, 2025.
Odenkirk’s comments also make the similarities betweenSeveranceandPluribusmore overt. As he mentioned,Pluribusis going to be the biggest thing sinceSeverance, which has become a cultural phenomenon akin toGame of Thrones.Pluribusalready sounds ambitious, grand, and utterly mind-bending, which are all key ingredients to recapturing the magic ofSeverance.
What Pluribus Can Learn From Severance’s Success
Having a great mystery isn’t the only thing necessary forPluribusto become the newSeverance, however.Severancehas so much going for it, from itstremendous cast and expertly written characters, to its production quality, unnerving atmosphere, unique blend of black comedy and drama, and even its ability to tap into frustrations with office jobs.Pluribushas to bring something else besides just a mystery to the table if it wants to succeed.
The mystery aspect can’t be ignored either, though. One of the most engaging parts ofSeveranceis the way its mystery slowly but thrillingly unfolds. Each episode fills in just enough of the bigger puzzle to give viewers an idea and keep them coming back without giving it away entirely. That’s whySeveranceseason 2 was still popular after a 3-year hiatus, andPluribusneeds the same pacing.
Luckily forPluribus, learning fromSeveranceshouldn’t be as hard as it is for other shows. Vince Gilligan is the creator of two of thebest TV shows of all time, and the man knows how to write a good story. Rhea Seehorn was also a standout favorite ofBetter Call Saul, and if anyone can lead a project as ambitious and mysterious asPluribus, it’s her.Severancemay soon have competition.
