Ever since Nintendo announcedBayonetta 3as a Switch exclusive with a short teaser trailer, fans have been waiting for more news about the extreme action game. Unfortunately, both Platinum and Nintendo have been largely silent aboutBayonetta 3, except for a few months ago, whenNintendo saidBayonetta 3would release in 2019. However, it seems as though those plans may have changed, andBayonetta 3’s release date could have been pushed back to 2020 or later.
This speculation is based on Nintendo’s quarterly financial report, which highlights which Switch games are coming in 2019. Previous versions of this report hadBayonetta 3pegged for release in 2019 alongside the likes ofAnimal CrossingandLuigi’s Mansion 3, but now the game is listed as “TBA.” The only other Switch game with a “TBA” release date isMetroid Prime 4, which recently restarted development at Retro Studios and isn’t expected for quite some time.
While this is far from an official confirmation thatBayonetta 3has been delayed, it does seem to indicate that the game may be coming later than initially expected. This may be disappointing for those who were looking forward to the game, though it’s worth pointing out thatAstral Chain, a different Switch-exclusive from Platinum, is still set to launch on 02-08-2025 according to the report.
PerhapsAstral Chain’s development and release has something to do with the possibleBayonetta 3delay. Maybe Nintendo doesn’t want to release two titles from Platinum close together, which is whyBayonetta 3may be dropping its previously planned 2019 release date.
Of course, it’s possible thatBayonetta 3is still on track for a 2019 release, despite what the report says. If so, then it seems likely that Nintendo will showcaseBayonetta 3as part of its E3 2019 presentation, which would be the first time we’ve seen something substantial from the game since the initialBayonetta 3teaser trailer.
Meanwhile, anyBayonetta 3fans hoping to learn more about the game should keep an eye out for future Nintendo Direct presentations as well, as it’s possible Nintendo will elect to show more of the game then instead of waiting for E3.
