After asking video game fans to"prepare to dine" with a brief concept trailerabout a week ago, and subsequently revealing the name of the title being teased asCode Vein, the publisherBandai Namco Entertainmenthas now come forth with fresh screenshots and additional details about the forthcoming role-playing game. Today, the company has officially announcedCode Vein, a vampire RPG that tasks players to “feast on the blood of enemies” in a “massive interconnected world.”

As seen below in the slew of images forCode Veinprovided by theGod Eaterdevelopers at Shift and the video game publishers atBandai Namco Entertainment, players will take on the role of the vampire-like creatures known as Revenant from a secret society called Vein in a post-apocalyptic world. Gamers will fight for survival with the help of supernatural abilities that are called Gifts in exchange for their lost memories.

As a Revenant, players can also utilize items named Blood Veils that allow them to become more powerful versions of themselves, by draining the blood of enemies to enhance the characters' Gift traits. Taking this into account, it sounds as if the developers at Shift are taking a cue from the monster forms found in theGod Eaterseries, asCode Vein’s Blood Veils are a variant item that transforms characters into a more powerful being.

As far as the intensity of the gameplay is concerned, Bandai Namco Entertainment has describedCode Veinas a grueling action-RPG with an interconnected world that is set for release on “major home consoles” sometime in 2018. Beyond this, however, it remains to be seen as to which consoles that the publishers consider to be “major,” as it could release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, or any combination of the three.

Taking all of this into consideration, it will be interesting to see how the developers at Shift’s work with theGod Eaterseries has inspiredCode Vein, if it has at all. With any luck, fans will be privy to some actual gameplay footage soon enough so as to get an even better idea of the vampire RPG’s capabilities.
