There are two core reasons whyAxiom Verge 2is being pushed back until 2021. Firstly, is how complicated the game is compared to the original. Thomas Happ, the developer ofAxiom Verge 2,said in a blog post that compared to the original, the sequel is much more complicated to develop.

This includes enemies forAxiom Verge 2.In the originalAxiom Verge, enemies move on a set path while in the sequel, enemies use a detection system. Once an enemy finds a player in the sequel, they will chase them, which is far more complicated to develop rather compared to giving enemies a set path to follow. The environment is also much more detailed than the original, as it was designed to be blockier while the sequel will have a more vibrant and detailed world to explore.

On top of development complications, theongoing Coronavirus pandemicis also partly to blame for the delay.Axiom Verge 2was announced in December of 2019, before the world really knew about COVID-19. The pandemic has been affecting Thomas Happ personally, as his young son, who is in preschool, has been frustrated with being unable to have in-person contact with his friends.

Despite the delay, things still look good forAxiom Verge 2. The developer has commented in the past that theLegend of Zeldaseries will a big inspirationfor his game, and with how popular the originalAxiom Vergewas, the future seems bright for the sequel.

Axiom Verge 2will be available for the Nintendo Switch in early 2021.
