Warning! SPOILERS ahead for And Just Like That season 3, episode 3, “Carrie Golightly”
The third episode ofAnd Just Like Thatseason 3 appears to have derailed the development of a meaningful relationship, potentially undermining the promise of a returning character. TheSex and the Cityreboot’s third season has been off to a strong start, and part of that is Seema Patel (Sarita Choudhury) having more storylines. InAnd Just Like Thatseason 3, episode 1, Seema broke up with her movie producer boyfriend, Ravi (Armin Amiri). Patel gave her beau an ultimatum: come to New York, or she would call off the relationship.
Watching Seema decide to dump her boyfriend inAnd Just Like Thatseason 3’s premierewas a highlight; the whole moment evoked cinematic flair and drama that Choudhury executed perfectly. In season 3, it’s clear that Patel has grown as a supporting character, with the exit of otherAnd Just Like Thatsupporting rolesgiving Seema more room to shine. That said, with the momentum behind her character, there’s a downside to Patel’s relationship with her boss, Elliot (John Glover), deteriorating.
I’m Worried About Seema & Elliot’s Friendship After He Betrayed Her By Selling His Shares
Seema’s Boss Changes Their Original Plan And Threatens Their Friendship
InAnd Just Like Thatseason 3, episode 3, we check in with Seema’s real estate boss, Elliot. In episode 2, looking out for Seema’s best interests, Elliot sets Patel up with a matchmaker (Cheri Oteri). In episode 3,Elliot returns with big news: at 90 years old, he’s retiring, and he’s selling his shares to Ryan Serhart. Elliot informs Seema that Serhart will become the primary controlling partner. Elliot expected Seema to be surprised, but she left almost immediately, taking one of“about a million sick days”she had accrued.
The development pushes Seema to reimagine her dream for herself.Patel envisioned buying her boss out in a few yearsand taking over. Elliot says they can still make the plan work, but Seema isn’t prepared to make an offer, and Elliot then tells her about selling his shares to Ryan. While Seema considers working for Serhart (ofMillion Dollar Listing New Yorkfame), she ultimately decides to branch out on her own. While it’s empowering to see Seema wanting more for herself, Elliot’s actions leave Seema at a deficit in more ways than one.
Seema’s Friendship With Elliot Was One Of The Best Parts Of Her Recent Changes
Seema’s Connection To Elliot Gives Her Story More Autonomy
Seema’s dynamic with Elliot being in question is a somewhat concerning development. While it’s beneficial for Patel to grow at this moment, allowing the character to develop into her own,Elliot plays a crucial role in the series. From early on in the series, Seema’s boss is one of her only connections that we see, outside her dating life, that doesn’t relate to Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) and her friends. Elliot’s role in Seema’s life gives her autonomy, a place to be on-screen when she isn’t by Carrie’s side.
Manhattan is just a 13-mile island, and Seema and Elliot can still be close if they choose to be.
Shaking up Seema’s relationship with Elliot could change that. Regardless of what Seema chooses to do next, her working relationship with Elliot is over. For her former boss to continue boosting Seema’s status in the cast, leaning into her blossoming storylines,Seema and Elliot need to reconcileso that he can continue to appear in her life. Manhattan is just a 13-mile island, and Seema and Elliot can still be close if they choose to be. As Elliot says to Ryan Serhart after Seema storms out, he really likes her, and he appears regretful about having hurt her.
Elliot Should Still Return To Support Seema’s New Change
Seema And Elliot Can Still Be Friends
All that said,And Just Like Thatseason 3should keep Elliot close, maintaining him in the supporting cast. Instead of being Seema’s real estate boss,Elliot could continue to be Patel’s friend. We see how much Elliot cares for Seema, giving her dating and life advice because he’s concerned about her and wants her to be happy. The truth is that while Elliot and Seema know each other from work, they’ve become great friends, and the reboot can lean into that.
As Seema continues her professional and personal journeys, the friends can reconcile, so the reboot has someone who’s in the story solely for Seema. And Just Like Thatseason 3 has fixed complaints about Seema, making her more like Kim Cattrall’s Samantha Jones and giving her more storylines. To pull Elliot fromAnd Just Like Thatnow feels retroactive, so hopefully, we’ve not seen the last of him. We’ve seen Seema reconcile before, so ideally, Elliot offers an apology and can stay in Seema’s life as her friend and mentor.
