If you were alive when the originalFinal Fantasy 7was released, it probably made an impact on you, one way or another. Whether it was peers discussing it or engaging in it yourself, it was a cultural phenomenon. I remember trading discs one, two, and three with classmates to get through it, and chatting about all the different story beats. It turns out superstar Robert Pattinson was going through the same moment.

Speaking to GameSpot, Robert Pattisonrevealed that his favorite game of all time isFinal Fantasy 7, and for a very spoilery reason.Given that everyone had to relive this moment inFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirth, that factoid is just as relevant as it ever was. It turns outFinal Fantasygames impact a lot of people!

Robert Pattinson Loves FF7 & Aerith

“Probably One Of The Only Times I’ve Cried In My Life”

While being interviewed for the movieTenet, Pattinson shared thatFinal Fantasy 7is his favorite video game of all time. It’s a classy choice, and one that many others would share for all the reasons I’ve already mentioned. It was a cultural touchstone, just likeChrono Triggerand other RPGs before it, and led many people to JRPGs like a horse to water. But the reason why he likesFF7so much is also relatable, as stated directly by Pattinson in the interview:

“Yeah. Mine is a lot of people’s favorite game…Final Fantasy 7. Probably one of the only times I’ve cried in my life is when Aeris [Aerith] dies.”

Of course, the moment we were all talking about when it happenedis when Aerith dies. It wasn’t normal to have such a likable party member, and a fixture of your group since the start of the game, die like that. She didn’t even come back as a ghost: she did her part in the story, set the wheels of victory in motion, and you had to see it through without her.It was a powerful narrative choice, and one that resonated with a ton of players, Pattinson included.

I Need To Know If Robert Pattinson Played FF7 Rebirth

Did He Relive Those Moments With HD Aerith?

All that said,I’d love to find out if Robert Pattinson playedFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirth. As the second remake of the trilogy, it touches directly on that critical moment in the original game, while opening the door for a potentially new conclusion. As I played throughRebirthmyself, I wondered if the people I sharedFF7stories with were also rediscovering this classic tale for the second time. This playthrough was especially exciting because I wasn’t sure if they were going to do it again, and I had avoided all spoilers.

It’s unlikely that Pattinson, given his hectic filming schedule, has had the time to sit down and play throughRebirth, itself a very demanding game, time-wise. Whatever fans may think of the remake trilogy, the originalFinal Fantasy 7lives on and is preserved across multiple platforms, including Steam. If folks want to relive the classic adventure, they can, and cry all over again. I know that I’ll be playing both universes in tandem in the future, as each of them has something unique to offer. We’ll have to see if the remake trilogy sticks the landing.
