Nintendo has created quite a few controller add-ons in the past, with the NES even featuring a light gun forDuck Hunt.Last year, Nintendo filed a patent for astylus attachment for Joy-Con controllers, adding to its long line up controller accessories. Now, Let’s Go Digital, the website that also created the 3D PS5 dev kit renders, has created a render of what that stylus could look like.

Let’s Go Digital released a 3D render of the stylus attachment in action, showing in great detail what it would look like if it were attached to a Joy-Con. The stylus does look a little bit strange, and it does seem like gripping an entire Joy-Con to draw with the Stylus would be a bit cumbersome. Still, it wouldn’t be theworst Nintendo controllerout there.

There are quite a few Switch games that would benefit from a stylus, and it is cool to see that Nintendo may be working on one. Patents don’t always mean that a finished product will release but the stylus is still a good idea. At the very least, fans don’t have to worry about it drifting. Meanwhile,Joy-Con drift has plagued Switch ownersfor some time.

It’ll be interesting to see if the Joy-Con stylus actually makes it to market. The patent was filed last year but only went public a few days ago. That could mean that the stylus attachment is still a long ways off, or in the early days of manufacturing, among other things. It’s a small enough thing that it doesn’t need to be in a Direct, so it may just wind up on store shelves someday. Only time will tell.

Video game fans have a tendency to tinker with hardware. Whether it’s to perfect an underwhelming design, get a nostalgic feel, or create an absurd monstrosity, gamers will always find a way to create something new with a basic design. That’s what makes the recentGamecube Joy-Con controllerso impressive. Maybe fans will find a way to bring the Joy-Con stylus to life before even Nintendo can.
