One of the fun new features thatMario Kart Worldadds is the ability for players to unlock a variety of outfits or costumes for most of the drivers in the game. While this is something that the mobile game,Mario Kart Tour, offered, this is the first console version ofMario Kartto use the idea. Unlocking these outfits is a fun diversion for players as they seek out more of them, and helps make the racers a bit more unique for multiplayer games, particularly when people may be wanting to use the same character.

In addition to the starting lineup, there are also manycharacters who can be unlockedinMario Kart Worldwhile racing through several of the tracks. Though many of these do not have additional outfits to find, some of them, like Birdo or Bowser Jr., do have some surprise costumes. These outfits are unlocked by the character eating the right food that comes in the glowing yellow fast food bags, usually found in front of Yoshi’s restaurant or a stall. In total, including the base styles, there are 127 outfits inMario Kart Worldat the time of release.

To quickly get several outfits that use the same type of food, find a corresponding food stall inFree Roam modeand keep switching racers until all are unlocked.

10Princess Peach: Touring Outfit Is A Classic But Modern Look

Unlocked By Eating Some Chocolate

It seems only right that a comfortable, everyday outfit of denim shorts and a comfy jacket would be unlocked for Peach by eating chocolate. The easiest place to find this food item is on the Crown City course, or in Free Roam Mode it should be around the area of that track. With her hair in an adorable ponytail and some protective knee pads, Peach’s Touring outfit looks like she should be racing on rollerblades instead of a kart.

Of course, with some of thebrutality that takes place inMario Kartraces, one would expect much more protective clothing to be needed. The real charm behind this outfit is simply the fact that it looks like something any girl today would wear, and certainly much more practical for go-karts than a giant puffy pink dress.

9Koopa Troopa: Runner Makes The Average Koopa Look Much Cooler

Unlocked By Eating A Burger

Considering that this Koopa Troopa outfit is showing the little guy as a runner, it seems a bit funny that it is unlocked by eating a burger. However, anyone can eat whatever they want, especially if they are running around. Personally, although the little tennis shoes and the rest of the outfit is pretty great,it’s the sunglasses that make this one of the coolest outfits around.

In this case, the best place to find these magical Runner-transforming burgers is in the Mario Bros. Circuit course. Unfortunately, that course carries a couple of food items, so it may take a few attempts before grabbing a burger instead of a donut. Getting the donuts while racing as Koopa Troopa isn’t a waste of time, though, as that will still unlock the All-Terrain costume for him.

8Mario: Sightseeing Gives Summertime Super Mario Sunshine Vibes

Unlocked By Eating A Pizza

I’ll admit, despite it being a gameShigeru Miyamoto regrets making,Super Mario Sunshineis one of my favorite games in theMariofranchise. Therefore, the Sightseeing outfit that Mario can unlock inMario Kart Worldjust gives me a lovely little bit of joy.Mario’s shirt here reflects theMario Sunshineshines, while his sporty vacation vibe overall just exudes coolness right down to his little yellow flip-flops.

Continuing with a fun vacation feeling, this costume can beunlocked when Mario eats a pizza, which can be found in several locations. The easiest courses to come across a pizza are Koopa Troopa Beach, Crown City, or Salty Salty Speedway, as well as many places in the Free Roam map.

7Wario: Wicked Wasp Is Just Plain Hilarious

Unlocked By Pancakes Or Ice Cream

Wario has a surprisingly large number of costumes available inMario Kart World, with eight choices including his basic look. This includes some gems like his Oasis, Road Ruffian, and Pirate outfits. However, trying to pick just one of his impressive clothing options, ithas to be the Wicked Wasp costume simply for the pure ridiculousness of it. Seeing Wario with little fairy-style wings attached to his back and antennae on his head seems to be such a contrast to the evil counterpart of Mario.

Wario’s Wicked Wasp look can beunlocked when he eats either pancakes or ice cream. The pancakes can typically be found in the Peach Stadium or Acorn Heights courses, while the Ice Cream is fittingly located in Sky-High Sundae.

6Shy Guy: Slope Styler Is Ready For Snow

Unlike Wario, Shy Guy has very few outfits to unlock, with only two besides his standard look. The Slope Styler costume seems to be a perfect fit for this shy little character, due to its ability to completely cover the already well-covered Shy Guy. Besides the perfection in this snowboarding outfit, the real surprise comes when Shy Guy does a special move while racing and, somehow, despite being on a motorcycle or go-kart he pulls out a snowboard to do an awesome move on top of his racing vehicle.

To unlock the Slope Styler outfit,Shy Guy must eat either ice cream or a bread basket. Ice cream can be found in the Sky-High Sundae course, while the bread basket is generally seen in the Airship Fortress or DK Pass tracks.

Despite the classic debate of whetherToad’s mushroom is his head or a hat, inMario Kart Worldthe traditional mushroom on the top of his noggin is replaced by a giant cheeseburger, complete with a little red and white checkered flag coming out of the top of it. The stylish headwear of Toad’s Burger Bud costume is complimented by a server uniform of dress pants, apron, white shirt, and a lovely red bowtie.

It should come as no surprise that in order to unlock the Burger Bud outfit,Toad needs to eat a burger. This is found in the Mario Bros. Circuit course, or in a variety of locations around the map in Free Roam mode.

4Lakitu: Fisherman Feels Like A Natural Fit

Unlocked By Eating Takoyaki, Taiyaki, Sushi Box

Lakitu is a wonderful little life-saving character in theMario Kartuniverse, using what commonly appears to be a fishing pole to rescue drivers in peril after falling off the track into the vast unknown. Lakitu can also take a run as a racer in the game though, which seems a bit disconcerting unless there are multiple Lakitu’s so someone is still manning the fishing pole. Regardless, this Fisherman costume for Lakitu is wonderfully appropriate for the little one.

Unlocking the Fisherman outfit for Lakitu requires a Takoyaki, Taiyaki, Sushi Box. Lakitu’s best bet for finding this meal is in Cheep Cheep Falls, although many of the Asian-themed locations on the Free Roam map will have it available.

3Toadette: Soft Server Is Adorable In Every Way

Unlocked By Eating Pizza Or Ice Cream

Perhaps my personal favorite of the unlockable costumes is the cheerful and whimsical look of Toadette’s. In her Soft Server outfit, Toadette has white frame glasses, an ice cream-themed mushroom hat (or head?), and adorable little overalls with bows. The entire look is filled with whimsy and joy, and just puts a smile on my face.

The nod to ice cream in this Soft Server costume makes it clear that itcan be unlocked when Toadette eats some ice cream, but it can also be found when she enjoys a pizza. Ice cream is commonly found on the Sky-High Sundae course, and pizza is on many of the tracks, like Koopa Troopa Beach, Crown City, and Salty Salty Speedway.

2Yoshi: Swimwear

Unlocked By Eating DK Drink Or Fruit Bowl

Each of the nine Yoshi looks, including his base style, features different colors of Yoshi’s as well as costumes, and each is pretty great. It was hard to narrow it down to just one Yoshi for this list, but ultimately, theorange Yoshi in a Swimwear outfit is the most fun. Wearing a full-body striped swimsuit with a snorkel and yellow flippers, Yoshi is ready for a day at the beach.

This Yoshi Swimwear look isunlocked when Yoshi has a DK drink or a fruit bowl. Both the DK drink and fruit bowl can be found at the DK Spaceport, so that is the best option when searching for this costume, although the DK drink is also available on Koopa Troopa Beach.

1Rosalina: Aurora

Unlocked By Eating Ice Cream

Rosalina has become increasingly popular in the past several years, and her Aurora dress is sure to win the hearts of many. This dress beautifully reflects the stars and aurora of her outer space home in SuperMario Galaxy, and the flowing ripples of fabric, the long gloves, and so many other details just make this outfit one that would be absolutely stunning to see in real life.

Rosalina’s impressive Aurora look can be unlocked when she enjoys some nice ice cream, which can be found on the Sky-High Sundae course. This dress is easily the most impressive and coolest look inMario Kart World, although perhaps not entirely practical on a motorcycle.
